Samsung Droid (Verizon Wireless) Review

Verizon customers now have two 4G Android smartphones to choose: love at first sight by HTC ($ 249.99, 4 stars), the current choice of our editors, "and charged $ 299.99 Samsung Droid, which is Samsung LTE equipment , and the first aircraft officially designated for Verizon Droid. The two phones are very similar but not identical. While the HTC Ray holds a slight advantage, you will be happy with the camera, and loading droid makes the cut from the list of best and the best phones with Android on phones from Verizon Wireless.

Design, screen, and call quality

Samsung charging Droid measures 5.1 2.6 0.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 5 grams. This makes it almost an ounce and a half lighter than the HTC Thunderbolt, but also a little 'longer. Droid payment has not been so impressive looking, but above all thanks to all plastic design (except glass box). Chrome around the edge and shiny, conical lid feels a little 'back to the cheap and seem to scratch easily.
Samsung Droid (Verizon Wireless)4.3-inch, 480 x 800 pixels, Super Plus AMOLED capacitive touch screen is just as lively as in other recent Samsung phones. Deep blacks and colors look good, and even the shadow of the Thunderbolt excellent test. There are four plastic buttons below the screen. I like these better than the Samsung shortcuts finicky S Galaxy, but the tactile feedback to support the design of HTC beats both. Writing is a QWERTY keyboard on the screen was a breeze, either vertically or horizontally, and the number of telephone numbers was very fast.

Upload Droid is a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (850/1900 MHz) and 4G mobile device with 802.11b / g / n Wi-Fi. With a DAB radio, Verizon says it expects download speeds in the range from 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of between 2 and 5 Mbps We received a rate even higher in some of the evidence, though. You can also use the droid Free Mobile Hotspot with the proper plan, you can support up to 10 devices running the 4G, or five devices, the 3G mode. Interestingly, Verizon promises to launch a mobile hotspot feature a limited period, and not pay an extra $ 20 a month, is, if you want this feature (and you).

Samsung Droid (Verizon Wireless)
Voice quality is very good: sharp, clear and high in the earpiece. Callers had no problem understanding me, either, even if you call say I sound a little thin by the microphone. The reception was strong. The callers sounded clear through an icon Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth Headset ($ 99, 4 stars). The speaker was strong enough to go outside, but it sounded too compressed and attenuated. Voice dialing has taken several samples via Bluetooth to get the correct number. I do not know why it is, but it might have something to do with how to charge Droid enables and disables the power saving algorithm that some voice prompts Jawbone icon was partially severed.

We got some strange results battery life in our tests. Prosecutors Droid a larger battery that the Ray HTC 1600mAh compared to 1400mAh on beam. We saw a very good time out and regulate the use of the load - after a day of the session, the battery life has not diminished much. But often results in short talk time of 4 hours, 15 minutes and 4 hours, 28 minutes, which is much shorter than we had on the stroke of lightning. Seeing them, we can not recommend this phone to people dissatisfied with the battery life of the beam is, we hope that the two phones have similar experiences.

Hardware, operating system and applications

Under the hood, the burden Droid has the same processor 1 GHz Cortex A8 based Hummingbird in a galaxy combined S half a dozen last year. Now, it would have been nice to see an update. Loading droid runs on Android 2.2 (Froy), no word yet on an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update. In our series of benchmark tests, this phone to try a little slower, in general, the Lightning, which incorporates a second-generation processor 1GHz Snapdragon.

Samsung walks a little lighter than the HTC with its user interface layer. Most applications are stock, but with less color or graphical improvements. What is good and bad, I missed an excellent layout HTC-like address book more lively and it is easier to access the history of a contact that the Samsung did. Droid Charge Samsung continues the tradition of wrapping the menu icons of colored blocks. The seven home screens adapted works.
